The Affordable Housing Demonstration – A Case Study: Tulsa, Oklahoma
In 1982, HUD launched the Affordable Housing Demonstration at 20 sites across the country. Each site took the form of a subdivision, built without Federal subsidy by a local developer. This historic publication is a case study of the Tulsa, Oklahoma demonstration site. The subdivision, Innovare Park, was 11 acres with 86 single-family detached homes. Hood Enterprises, Inc. was the developer. The houses were available in 7 models and priced between $47,000 and $63,000. By implementing nontraditional construction and design decisions and securing development variances, the developer saved nearly $14,000 per unit.
